The International Hypothermia and Temperature Management Symposium (IHTMS) has been a recurring meeting, held approximately every 2 years, organized by enthusiasts and scientific experts in the field of targeted temperature management.
The first meeting was organized by Drs. Dalton Dietrich and Ken Nagao and was held in Tokyo, Japan in 2004. Subsequent meetings were held in Miami (USA, Chair Dalton Dietrich), Lund (Sweden, Chair Hans Frieberg), Tokyo (Japan, Chair Ken Nagao), Edinburgh (Scotland, Chair Peter Andrews) and Philadelphia (USA, Co-Chairs Fred Rincon and David Gaeski).
The symposium’s goal is to highlight recent advances in the field of temperature management related to basic science, clinical research and innovative technology with the purpose of translating contemporary scientific knowledge into a practical message that delegates can apply in their everyday practice.
Another highlight of the meeting is the awarding of the HAYASHI prize
for the best abstract (experimental or clinical research), which
includes publication of the accepted abstract in the journal Therapeutic Hypothermia and Temperature Management,
a key-note presentation, and a $1000 award. Funds for this prestigious
award were generously provided by its namesake, Dr Nariyuki Hayashi.
