The world has seen unprecedented upheaval over the last few years, and it has demanded great change and reflection for us all. In such times, we are called upon to join together to imagine and create a better future where we embrace our interconnectedness, share scientific and medical advancements, commit to justice and equality for all people, and strive to build a more sustainable world. At INS, we believe this is the time to commit not only to technological growth and modernization in our fields, but also to re-examining some of our guiding beliefs and ideals in service to promoting greater equality. We recognize that our young members are looking to us to evolve. These are the inspirations for the theme for the 2022 Annual Meeting in New Orleans: Cultivating a New Ethos.
This year in San Diego, despite the virtual meeting and COVID-19 restrictions, we celebrated together and attended powerful presentations. We are looking to continue this forward trajectory in 2022 and invite abstract submissions that highlight future directions in technology, open science, machine learning, and test and normative data development for the tech era. Projects focusing on cross cultural neuropsychology, underserved communities, supervision and training models in a multiethnic and interconnected world, and effects of environmental exposures and social disparities are especially welcome. Our goal is to not only highlight issues, but to additionally propose and support new approaches to address inequalities. Proposals that integrate professionals across disciplines are highly encouraged, as are projects reflecting global collaboration across countries.
There is no better city to host the INS 2022 meeting than New Orleans. It is a resilient, vibrant, and multicultural city that has weathered adversity and natural disasters but has never lost its spirit. Its rich, Carnival traditions date back centuries and incorporate aspects of French, Spanish, African, and Indigenous American culture. New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz and the home of Creole food, a unique blend of Italian, Spanish, German, African, Indigenous American, and Caribbean flavors. It is a city that proudly honors its roots and history, celebrates and upholds tradition, and still demonstrates bold innovation and reinvention.
